Tribeca #2

Our client for this project had unique taste. His Tribeca loft had design motifs that ranged from ultra contemporary to African Tribal. You can imagine the challenges he faced finding furniture in the SoHo boutiques that could bridge those two extremes so he turned to us.

The design concept came to us rather easily: bright brushed steel coupled with African Wenge hardwood and cutting edge hardware. The client also threw another curve our way: one of the credenzas had to conceal a wall mounted air conditioner – the type common to hotels. That meant that whatever we designed had to include access not only to the control panel, but also to maintenance panels. And to top it all off, it all had to fit in a 11’ pocket.

So we decided to break up the 11 feet with two equal pieces. Both credenzas would be full size while the one would only be half as deep, but with a top surface that would cover the a/c. That requirement introduced the need for a diffuser to allow the a/c to exhaust cold air. Since we were designing a related set, we chose to add diffusers to the other pieces for continuity. Much needed storage, concealment of an unsightly a/c unit, and a one-of-a-kind look. Overall, an excellent illustration of the benefit of custom design.
