Tribeca #1

Wall Street meets Laguna Beach. Once again our client in New York came to us to specifically address his desired design criteria for customizing his home office. He wanted a West Coast feel so he turned to West Coast designers.
The room began as a basic rectangle with seemingly random soffits in the corners. The idea was to design a workstation that could work around the soffits and incorporate a surfboard feel, and then design shelving to match. Jason addressed the squareness of the soffits by designing a workstation with organic shapes that were the furthest away from square. The shapes were inspired by close-up perspective of a surfboard.
This approach was carried through to the file cabinets and shelving. The file cabinets featured perforated metal ‘baskets’ with sliders mounted on to 2” legs with casters. The shelving featured some interesting challenges as well. Our client really liked our Headway line of shelving, so we started there with the basic 3 pole system and our exclusive T-PIN support system. The shelves fit between the plasma tv we mounted to the center pole, and the custom-fabbed surfboard rack that mounted towards the ceiling.
Lastly, to complete the West Coast surfboard direction, we finished the entire system with a high gloss epoxy-resin top coat and an icon the client chose embedded in the finish. As he put it after we installed it, “this is now my favorite room in the apartment.” |
